Psychological horror-thriller “CAR:Y”, the debut feature project from Silver Films’ Olivier Guerpillon, has been selected with six other Nordic genre projects to be part of the Nordic Genre Boost, an initiative of the Nordisk Film & TV Fond to boost the development of Nordic genre films. CAR:Y is the only Swedish project selected, in a selection that includes acclaimed directors like Danish Jonas Arnby (whose first feature When Animals Dream was in Cannes) and Finnish director Ulrika Bengts (Finland’s Oscar entry for her previous feature The Disciple).
Each project receives a $24,000 (NOK200,00) development grant, and access to two residential workshops: one held in collaboration with Night Visions International Festival in Helsinki (April 5-9), and a second during New Nordic Films’ Co-Production and Finance Market in Haugesund (Aug 22-25).
CAR:Y is the story of an old woman who gets a little dog-robot for company from her son, who engineered it. Things take unexpected and scary turns when her bond with the machine grows deeper. The film is written and directed by Guerpillon, and produced for Silver Films by the director together with Frida Hallberg.
